General Information

Welcome to the Ben Franklin Webpage. Our school’s mission statement is "Learning is job one! Everyone can learn, everyone will learn!"  All that we do supports this singular focus.  Included on these web pages is vital information every parent should know regarding our school.  Our staff is dedicated to teamwork, developing student experiences of success, building self-esteem, and instilling knowledge and positive social skills.  Ben Franklin School provides an environment for students to learn and grow, build friendships and successes, and to play and reach for their dreams.

To deliver a rigorous academic agenda, Ben Franklin School adheres to the Common Core State Standards. The Standards indicate what is to be learned in each subject area each year. Teachers instruct and assess students toward learning all the Standards for their grade level prior to the yearly state assessments in spring. Our Timelines for Learning support our academic program and include responsibilities for students and parents. The Timelines for Learning can be found on this Web site.

Meeting the social-emotional needs of all children is also a priority. To support this endeavor, we use the acronym PRIDE: Purpose, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Empathy.  Through regular lessons, conversations, and learning opportunities, our staff instills these characteristics in each child.  We “pride” ourselves on the fact that the adults on campus model these behaviors each day and support every student in developing them as well.  These characteristics aid in creating an environment of social growth, safe learning, and virtuous citizens.

Knowing the importance of the home-school connection, our school has a "Parents are Responsible" program. This program requires parents enrolling a child after Parent Information Night to attend a meeting with their child's new teacher within 10 days of the child's first day at our school. This meeting permits the teacher to best inform parents of our expectations and programs, supporting a good start at our school.  The Parents are Responsible program also includes notification to parents when their child is not meeting our Timelines for Learning or behavior expectations. Notification to parents keeps them informed for early intervention.

To support our academic and social-emotional goals, we have a hard working group of parent volunteers and an active PTA. Parents are often interested in volunteering in classrooms. We welcome their assistance, however, during the COVID-19 outbreak, we will not be able to welcome volunteers on campus.  Please communicate with your teacher while these restrictions are in place to see if there are creative ways you can be of help.  When the restrictions are lifted, if you are interested in volunteering in the more traditional sense, please contact your child's teacher. Our PTA is another means of volunteering. Whether you are volunteering with PTA or just learning what they do at our school, you will be impressed with their energy and promotion of programs at Ben Franklin.

Ben Franklin is a great school, with an amazing staff, hardworking students, and highly supportive parents.  We welcome you to this community of learning and hope you enjoy the information found at this site.
