Welcome to Ben Franklin Elementary School where we strive daily to pursue our shared goal, “Learning is Job One!”
We love partnering with our parents to support our students. We strive to deliver instruction at high levels of rigor for every student. We believe that the research is true - when schools and parents partner in students’ learning, students are successful. We ask for your support in the following ways:
Reading to or with your child every day. Long after children learn to read for themselves, they love this special time with their parents/guardians. Children who are read to are the ones who want to read on their own.
Joining our parent-teacher organization (PTA). When parents and teachers work together schools improve.
Volunteering your time. The more help parents give, the more time teachers can spend with students. Work full-time? There are still ways to help. Ask your child’s teacher what you can do.
Let your children know school is important. Ask about their homework. Attend school events. Talk about how you use what you learned in school in your job.
Recognizing your child’s special gifts. Each child has special talents. Perhaps the most important thing you can do is to help your child see how he or she is special. That boosts confidence and sets the stage for learning.
Emphasize the PRIDE characteristics and expectations. When children know what is expected they know how to act. And, during remote or virtual learning, please:
* Establish a place for learning in your home.
* Have materials prepared and ready to go for learning..
* Charge your child’s computer or device every night in preparation for the next day.
* Ensure a good breakfast prior to learning.
* Engage with the teacher and school to ask questions and clarifications.
School-home communication is highly encouraged. We encourage our parents and community to join us in our monthly Bolt Parent Academy workshops. These are workshops geared to support our parents and bring awareness about programs, activities, and strategies that are true for Ben Franklin Elementary.
Please keep our handbook to refer to throughout the year. We look forward to locking arms with you to support our Ben Franklin Lightning Bolts.
All My Best,
Mrs. Correa-Fudge
