Warm Weather

The following procedures are in effect for dealing with warmer temperatures:

shade structure

Students may eat lunch under the shade covered picnic benches or in Independence Hall.

Teachers conduct physical education early in the day or within their classroom

Misters are turned on over the outdoor lunch area on hot days.

Students may go quietly into the library during recess and lunch periods to read or work unless closed because library clerk it out.

During warm weather students may elect to visit Independence Hall during lunch to sit, talk quietly with others, or read in the rest area. This is available unless we are short noon supervisors or a school event is occurring in Independence Hall.

shade structure

Students are encouraged to cool off under the huge 30' x 40' shade structure on the main playground. A smaller 20' x 20' shave structures is located on the kindergarten playground. They may remain under the shade cover as long as they desire.

Students are reminded to hydrate themselves by getting drinks of water. The Philly Cafe sells bottled water at lunch for 50 cents each.

Students may wear hats outside of buildings. Baseball hats are to be worn with the bill over the face.

Lunch Team members (noon supervisors) are provided mister bottles to gently spray students with water if students desire.

The shade structure located on the main playground was purchased with PTA funds for approximately $22,000 while the smaller one on the kindergarten playground was purchased by PTA for $7,000. Students have found it to be very effective. We thank our PTA and all parents and relatives who are members of PTA for the donation.
